I learned to play with four irons, two woods, and a putter. Won a bet once that I could break 90 carrying just a 3-wood, a 5-iron, a sand wedge, and a putter. It was a grand day when I got a full set of irons, and could use a 6-iron rather than choosing between trying to take something off of the 5-iron or really muscle the 7-iron. Never got to the problem contemporary pros have: which 14 of the 20 clubs in their set should they carry today?Report
