Cartoon must be a hundred years old and while some of its specifics are a bit dated, I think we’ve all been where this guy is.Report

    • Dickens, 80 years before that: “Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six , result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery.”

In the fall of 1972 I went off to the University of Nebraska. One of the local banks offered incoming freshmen who had been accepted to one or more honors classes a Visa card with a $300 limit. I took it, and a damned good thing. Another Michael Cain had passed enough bad checks that no one but the university and the utilities would take my check. All merchants would accept the local bank’s credit card. And so nice to make the income and expenditure match over a couple of months, instead of at the end of every month. Especially months when I had to buy textbooks.Report
