Great stuff, just took a listen on a walk.

One thing that may be just a local thing, but our election worker infrastructure around here is ‘oversubscribed’. That is, they got a lot of new volunteers last year both to anticipate a high turnout election and to fill in for the usual cadre of older folks that wanted to sit that round out due to (justified) Covid health worries.

But now, everyone is more or less back, and off year elections, with lower turnout, don’t require as many people to staff. So right now, there’s probably 2-3 times the number of people that have signed up to work elections than there are workers needed.

This will probably get closer to ‘right-sized’ as we head into the 2024 cycle, but it’s something to keep in mind for people that listened to the podcast and want to jump in.Report

I enjoyed the discussion. I cracked up when Genya wondered why trust in mail in voting had fallen in FL, and Andy was totally at a loss for words for a few seconds. (She knew what was going on.)Report
