    Future tense of ‘what are you going to call him’ indicates to me that this was still the era where infants weren’t given names until several months after birth, sometimes up to a year or two.Report

    Percy isn’t that bad — at least it’s short. And lots of middle names suck.

    I dodged a bullet. My father wanted to call me Jeremiah Solomon, but my mother reportedly stated they were not going to saddle a child with that many syllables and put her foot down.Report

      My mother wanted to name me Wesley and my father settled on Vermspitter as a negotiating position. It dragged on for a week until my Grandmother arrived and refused to get out of the taxi to the hospital until my Father climbed down a bit. They settled on Jeremie (ie instead of y) and my younger brother ended up with Pendragon for a middle name as a result of the settlement over my name.Report

      Couldn’t you just drop the middle name and go by Jeremy? I don’t know any of my friends’ middle names unless they advertise them.Report
