Does it still count even if you don’t touch the ball?Report

    • Michael Cain in reply to Jaybird says:

Yes. IIRC, the rules say “swing with intent to strike the ball.”Report

Why did you have to bring ‘intent’ into it… now we’ll never get anywhere.Report

I remember once being so frustrated at a tournament in high school that I whacked a shot without even bothering to take my bag off my shoulder.

            It…wasn’t a good day.Report

While I was in college my father played in an every-Saturday foursome. One of the men was a somewhat better player than the others and would, from time-to-time, get insufferable about it. Dad would call and tell me to come home for the weekend and bring my sticks. One of the other players would call in sick and Dad would take me along to fill in.

My assigned task was to make sure that Mr. Insufferable had a not-good day. I often started it on the first tee by asking him, “Are we playing golf today, or that game where you make up the rules as you go along?” Invariably, when he was on a streak that made him insufferable, he was cheating in all the little ways that make the game easier. Making him stop that was worth three or four strokes over 18 holes, and made needling him about other things even easier.Report
