As you know, this is when we listen to a lovely rendition of Ave Maria (as well as something somewhat less timeless) and, in recent years, discuss what we’re giving up for Lent.
I’m actually NOT giving up Carbs for Lent this year. Apparently, I always turn into a miserable jerk for those 46 days and nights. I should probably try to avoid that. This year, I will try to avoid it by not avoiding carbs entirely. Instead, I’m giving up Fast Food. (I will make small exceptions… I can get the salad from a handful of places, if needs be. But only if needs be. This isn’t intended to be an out.)
The goal isn’t to eat out and get the healthy stuff, though. It’s to bring food that I made myself. This will involve cooking and cooking a lot.
On top of that, I resolve to drink Metamucil every day. That one I’m not going to be as strict for… but good cholesterol is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol is bad and I’m going to turn over a new leaf and get rid of some of the bad in one of the ways that seems to actually work.
But, tonight, I’ll be taking Maribou out to the IHOP and get a plate of pancakes and we’ll talk about how far we’ve come and how far we’ve yet to go.
(And I need another “Oh, I remember that song!” song for the post… here’s one.)
So… what are you giving up for Lent?
