      Obviously not. This cartoon is a Gone With The Wind-esque whitewashing of the past that was an obvious attempt to make the ruling White classes feel better about their oppression of POCs.Report

      Well, in this one specifically all it’s showing is they have a (maybe?) stay at home wife, a jacket, a chair and an apartment or home. For a city dweller that isn’t unreasonable. I agree that some of the previous portrayals seemed to show people like milk men appearing in pretty toff settings.Report

      I’m with CJ, I believe the artist is portraying a recent Italian immigrant speaking their recently learned English. Of course in reality when he came home he’d simply speak Italian with his wife.Report
