Desert Bus for Hope starts this weekend, so I’ll be spending most of my weekend watching it. The rest of my time will be spent on running my weekly D&D campaign on Sunday.Report

I’m wondering if the Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich isn’t just an upscalier version of the McRib, maybe with the added cachet of it’s tweaking the nose of a competing chain that is unpopular with people of certain viewpoints. It’s artificial scarcity, which is a Thing now (children’s toys now are largely “blind bag” format which means it’s a gamble every time you buy one, and the one your kid really wants is probably a scarce one). I guess maybe artificial scarcity helps goad jaded consumers into buying…

This weekend: well, I don’t even care any more, I am putting up the Christmas decorations. Yes, it’s “too early” but 2019 has been nothing but hot garbage for me and I need something nice and fun and pretty. (And also I am always gone over Thanksgiving, which is when it becomes barely acceptable to put them up). Anyway, I can see a neighbor across the street already has a tree up, so I feel like less of a “Yankee” for that. (The joke here is that the ONLY people who put up Christmas decorations before Thanksgiving are “Yankees.”)Report

It’s not too early. As we’ll be traveling (to Paris!) Thanksgiving week, we’ll probably put our tree up next weekend. This weekend is a football game and then pre-planning (list making, preparing suitcases, etc) for the trip which is suddenly upon us.Report

Oooh, awesome. Will you have access to free time while there or is all your time tightly scheduled?Report

It’s all free time–we have a planned day trip to Brussels and the mandatory appointment time for the Da Vince exhibit at the Louvre (which also meant entry time), but otherwise, we’ll decide what we want to do on a day by day basis. We have a google map full of stuff to do, but we’re not big itinerary people–it’s a vacation, not an assignment.Report

I only eat at Popeye’s ironically (eyeronically? popeyeronically?).

We just got a replacement double oven for our previous one… “upgraded” to baker’s doors (french doors for consumers) and I’m glad to see that restaurant feature make it into home models. The old one was 13 yrs old, but broke about 4-yrs ago… not completely broke, just broke enough to keep using but not quite justify the new expense. Its my wife’s birthday month… so we agreed this would be a good enough reason to make the investment, but not an appropriate gift to satisfy the annual tithe. So I’m still on the hook for that.

With a family of 8 we’re positively brutal on all home appliances… we’ve tried buying “almost pro” stuff… but it still breaks since it is “almost” and not “actually” pro. We got a tip from another large(r) family that you get the regular stuff but buy the “sucker’s bet” extra warranty. Turns out the appliances don’t really outlast the extended warranty when you have 6-10 kids… so you get your money’s worth and occasionally a free new appliance. Just have to keep decent records and know who to call. Take *that* below replacement rate underwriting assumptions.

Also second weekend of black powder season… first weekend was a cold and unsuccessful bust – though a pal got one on another part of our property… sometimes makes me reconsider some sort of Loin Tax or somethin’.Report

“Popeyeronically” should totally be a word.

I think I have eaten Popeye’s food once in my life. But I am not a fan of the deep-fried, so….(Also there is not one in the town where I currently live, and if I’m driving OUT OF TOWN for a restaurant it’s either going to be my favorite bbq place, or a place where you get to sit down and order off a real menu and have the food brought to you on real plates)Report
