Weekend Plans Post: Stumbling into Autumn

On a whim, a couple weeks ago, I signed up for a needle-felting class at the nearest-to-me yarn shop (an hour away; I live in the middle of nowhere).

After the past few weeks I’ve had, I think getting to repeatedly stab fiber with little needles (which is how needle-felting works) is something I need. (The technique allows you to turn wool into a fairly solid form; lots of people use it to make small figures of animals or gnomes or things like that. The class I am taking is to make an owl…)

There’s something satisfying to my brain about “getting to use stabby needles” but also “making something fun and creative using what looks like a destructive technique”

I also think I need to plan more things like this on the weekends, both so I am getting out and doing things instead of staring at the same four walls (either in my office or in my living room) but also so maybe I hopefully can make some new friends; I have lost too many friends (to either moving far away or death) in the past 5-6 years and I really need to expand my social circle.

I also need to mow the lawn – that’s probably Saturday morning early before I go down for the class – and on the way home a stop for at least minimal grocery shopping.Report

Road trip to the coast. Summer’s not quite over for us. Grass cut, Jeep shined up. Packing has commenced.

Starting the day with a West Virginia sunrise, ending with a South Carolina sunset…Report

I am heading to Portland tomorrow, as I need to pick up a few things, and I am going to visit an old friend from HS who lives up there. I hadn’t been telling people that I was in the state (especially as this seems to be where everyone ended up after they fled SF.) Other than that, I am slowly working on repainting the trim on the house. And at the same time, fixing any and all dry rot issues and assorted f-ups by the previous owners*.

*Its a 100yo house. There have been many owners and many make-do situations over those years.Report
