This is kind of a pre-weekend for me too. Next weekend I’ll be flying down to Christchurch to catch up with my parents,, following which I’ll be having a much-needed 2 weeks off work. This weekend will mostly be resting on Saturday and running the introductory session of my new Adventurer Conqueror King campaign on Sunday.Report

Today is my “weekend day.” First up is the screening mammogram I get every year (AKA the one medical test that doesn’t give me anxiety – never had a bad result and there aren’t metal instruments being jabbed *into* parts of my anatomy, so). But then I’m going to go antiquing and also do some grocery shopping in the next city over (which has better shopping).

Tomorrow I’m going to go in and finish a manuscript; I think I’ll work better on it for having taken today off.

Sunday is a potluck at church but I’m going to make one of my typical dishes (a bastardized form of carne machaca/pulled beef, made in the slow cooker) so I have that figured out and also it will be an easy preparation.

Next weekend will be good: a friend of mine who lives several hours away is planning to come up and we’re going to spend the day running around looking at nearby historical sites and maybe going to a tiki bar.Report

My wife took me to one of her gynecology appointments once and all I can say is that these dudes who go on about how ultrasounds aren’t a big deal need to go sit in one of those, because I’m sitting there and she’s all up on the table and the doctor takes out this thing that looks like a hose clamp tightener and I’m like “what’s that” and whaoooaoaAOHAOAHAOAAOAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHHHHHHH!H!!!!!!!!

Like, if you honestly think that this stuff isn’t a big deal then all I can say is that you don’t actually know what’s involved. I sure-hell didn’t. I’m…well, to say I’m glad I was there would suggest some very specific fetishes that I do not share, but I really appreciate her sharing that experience with me because it’s not really the sort of thing that people who haven’t got vaginas really get, I think.Report

We’re all going to electronic music festival #1 this weekend, then I’m traveling straight to music festival #2 to help with set up while the rest of the family he’s gone for the week and come out next weekend for the festival itself.

Today we run around and get groceries and replace the camping stuff that got stolen out of the truck on Tuesday and do a bunch of laundry so we have something to wear while we’re away.Report

Festival one is over. It rained and rained oyn the lead up and we pretty rainy during; fortunately we arrived late enough that the ‘roads’ through the site were already mud bogs and all the low areas were underwater – so we set up right near the entrance to the grounds, and the high ground was easily identifiable by being above water. My friend who’s giving me a ride to the next festival was called far from the gates – it took us a good hour to drive his front wheel drive car off the site, walking ahead, planning our route around the bogs. We did it though – probably half the vehicles got towed out by a tractor.

It was a lot of fun, but it was a lot of work to have that fun.Report

Younger boy is heading out for an evening with friends and another parent is handling transportation. I don’t believe I have anything going on Saturday so maybe I’ll employ the double excuses of “it’s hot” and “the outside air is full of pine tree pollen” to stay inside all day and explore the Steam Summer Sale. Birthday party for older boy this Sunday–he’s a teen so it’ll be a lot of family and a passel of his friends who will require zero supervision from us so that’s easy. Otherwise–laundry. I’ve been slacking so I’ve got to–GOT TO–wade through the pile on the guest bed. Providing motivation is the imminent arrival of a house guest this weekend who will be here for about a month or so. And that’s probably my night tonight–catching up on the various Arrowverse shows (I’m trying to watch them in story order), enjoying a few adult beverages, and laundry.Report

Our monthly dinner club meets tonight and we’re doing a Mexican fiesta theme. I’m going to try my hand at making some churros with this recipe. It has the triple benefit of me already having all the ingredients in the pantry, easy to make, and likely very tasty.

Like JB I have to make a Costco run for some meat for our family Fourth of July picnic. It was my grandmother’s birthday so the extended family always got together. She died 26 years ago, but the tradition lives on. I think this year might be the 60th.

The rest of the weekend will be spent decompressing after finishing a major project at work, and dealing with a pretty sick wife.

Happy Independence Day to all American readers!Report

I… Don’t think I have any plans. So, I might break ranks and go see a movie, as there is a new Jim Jarmusch/Bill Murry film playing at the local art house. Other than that, I think I will try to get caught up on projects, which seem to be multiplying.Report
