The profession still exists, but has been automated. They sweep my street about four times per year. Main streets get swept more often. As a bicyclist, I am pleased to pay taxes for this program. And even more pleased that if I call in to complain about a bunch of junk in a bike lane, a sweeper goes through within a day or two.

I spent much of my youth sweeping out my father’s warehouse, and to this day I find myself advising people on the finer points of push-broom technique.Report
