  1. My favorite Bob Gibson story:

Gibson is, uncharacteristically, struggling. The catcher, Tim McCarver, calls time and walks out to the mound to have a talk. Gibson is not happy about that.

“Get back there!” he shouts. “The only thing you know about pitching is that you can’t hit it!”Report

When I first went away to college in 2003 I would put The Sound of Music on every night in my dorm and be comforted by everything that is wonderful about that film. The repetitions assured memorization.

Nearly 20 years later, The Bob Emergency is my new TSOM. It is everything. It is light and comfort and perfection. Goddess bless Jon Bois.

I’ve fallen asleep to it nearly every night these past few weeks and I can’t wait for my heart to sing and memorize – once more.Report

The incredible thing about this video is that Bois constructs a Theory of Bobs – that Bob is almost never a name you’re born with, but is instead earned as a nickname through interaction with others; in short, Bobs are loved – and then sets about showing the relentlessly uncool yet indomitable self-possession that results.Report
