If you know about Forgotten Realms (or if you enjoyed the Drizzt Do’Urden novels) you might have a hair more context and enjoy some of the potential combos more… but it’s better compared to enjoying a play on words than seeing it as something that will help you win or cause you to lose if you don’t know it.

One of the most remarkable things I’ve discovered during my random walk through American Nerd Culture is people who have absolutely no interest in, or even familiarity with, Dungeons and Dragons, but who nonetheless adore the tie-in novels.

Anyway, after an exhausting couple weeks I decided to cancel D&D tonight and we’re gonna go see Endgame instead. I’ve actually done a marvelous job avoiding spoilers so far, but I am given to understand it somehow involves superheros.Report

  2. I am halfheartedly playing Terraria.

Not much else. I’ve tried browsing Steam, but nothing really strikes me.Report

Dunno exactly what sort of thing you’re into, but I had a great time with Dead Cells. Most Roguelikes suck, most Dead Souls knock-offs suck, and most indy Metroidvanias suck, but this one is all three and also fun as shit.Report

I finished Kingdom Hearts 2. I’d played the first one when it came out and wasn’t blown away, but I’ve been playing my way through all the rereleases and just absolutely loved the second game. Combat is fun if easy on the main path, but the optional bosses are very challenging, the Disney quests are much better done, Donald Duck has even more warquacks, and instead of the banal story of the first game, this one mixes wholesome-to-the-point-of-treacly glurge with a plot pitched at people who thought Neon Genesis Evangelion was too normal.

    Highest recommendation.Report
