Up the Creek

Em Carpenter

Em was one of those argumentative children who was sarcastically encouraged to become a lawyer, so she did. She is a proud life-long West Virginian, and, paradoxically, a liberal. In addition to writing about society, politics and culture, she enjoys cooking, podcasts, reading, and pretending to be a runner. She will correct your grammar. You can find her on Twitter.

  1. I gotta say I like Chris Elliot a lot better than you do. I have nostalgic memories about his show “Get a Life” from the early 1990s. I’ll admit, though, that he seems to have a very limited range of characters he knows how to play. But then, some people like Jon Stewart. So there’s no accounting for taste.

At any rate, thanks for this review. I’ve been thinking about watching the show, but have always held off. I think I’ve assumed it was the type of show you’re suggesting it’s not. (I also have mixed feelings about Eugene Levy. He reminds me of someone I know whom I’m not too fond of. That’s not Levy’s fault, but it colors what I think of him.) I might give the show a try now.Report

I finished season one a few days ago and it’s Daniel and Stevie and Mutt and Rosalyn who are just enough to overcome the vacuous sink hole that is Chris Elliot to get me to come back for season 2. The wine conversation, for me, was easily the best moment of season1.Report
