I know that Toto aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. But that they served as studio musicians on this album, on a Steely Dan album, for Boz Scaggs, and have sold millions of their own albums demonstrates there is something especially talented about them.Report

  2. My memory may be screwing with me, but at least in my city, I seem to recall the video being shown once on a pbs station. If I’m not making that up, it was a one shot deal. I’m pretty sure that’s how I watched it, because my family didn’t have cable.Report

I’m pretty sure, before finally being able to see the whole thing, I caught some of Thriller in bits and pieces in the ‘tv edit’ version they showed in regular rotation. I do remember when I saw the whole thing through, it was at my grandmother’s neighborhor’s house in Nova Scotia. But I can’t remember if it was that next summer (i.e. 1984*), or the summer after that.

*I do remember that we saw the Canadian version of the LA olympics but at grandma’s house itself; a black and white TV that, at the time, could only receive the English CBC station, the French CBC station, and one independent station, that I think went on later to become Atlantic TV.Report

My son was born in November before the video was released, on my 30th birthday. The first time I saw it straight through was late at night while I was carrying an ill one-month-old around, doing the baby bounce, trying to get him to sleep. The tempo was just a bit faster than his preferred baby bounce tempo.Report
