Sam Wilkinson

According to a faithful reader, I'm Ordinary Times's "least thoughtful writer." So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

    Great links!
    FS1 That movie is a hidden gem of a scary movie, plus it has George C. Scott and Brad Dourif!
    FS4 End up? (spoiler–scene is from first movie) but a good choice
    FS5 I agree–that’s one of my favorite scenes–also Ripley and Co. talking with Ash about the order. Alienis a haunted house story in space; it’s a movie I can always watch.Report

    So, The Thing (the greatest of all horror films, bar none) was based on a short story, Who Goes There, by John W. Campbell. This is well known. But, unknown was that was a cut-down version of a novel that never saw print. And that novel was discovered in the writer’s letters that have been stored at Harvard. And it is going to be released! Frozen Hell.Report

      @aaron-david I’ve always enjoyed that the kids in the original Halloween were watching the original production of The Thing on television, years before Carpenter was allowed to remake it.Report

    Question for those who feel so inclined:

    Are you dressing up, and if so, as what?Report

      I dressed up for a party on Saturday, so there is a costume I can put back on – a parrot with a pirate on its shoulder. Not entirely sure whether I will or not. If I go out with the kids, I’ll probably dress up, if I stay home and make supper and dispense candy, I probably won’t (the wings of the costume would not mix well with cooking).Report

      Coworker put on a “Hi, my name is” sticker and wrote “DAVE” on it. “I’m Dave”, he said.

      So I got a “Hi, my name is” sticker and wrote “DAVE” on it. I walked up to him, looked at his sticker and said “YOU JERK”.

      Two people laughed.Report

        Nice (actually, that’s a pretty epic response). My idea for a simple costume: The “Hi” sticker with “Jim Pembry, now talk to me, damn it.” (which only goofy people like me who remember movie quotes would get)Report

      Pair of chinos, sneakers, tee shirt;
      “21st century office worker.”

      Tomorrow I will go back to my normal attire.Report
