    I’ve gotten back in to Brad Meltzer (audiobooks!). “First Counsel” from 2001. Since just about running out of Harlan Coben to read, I needed somewhere else to go.

    I’m still about 1/3 the way through Red Mars, but I need to step up my cleaning game and that means I need stories with maximum grip. I might just jump in to Brad Thor or Vince Flynn for a while. The books are forgettable (I made it half way through one before being sure that I had actually heard it before)but they do keep my attention.Report

    Most of my reading is kiddos bedtime stories lately. Which for the post couple years is pretty good as she’s gotten older, there’s so much great YA stuff out there. We read the first book of Katherynne Valente’s Fairyland series last book but one, and the second book is coming up as soon as Nancy Drew cracks the Clue in the Crossword Cipher.

    I love love love Valente’s writing, both her YA and adult audience novels. Beautiful language, beautiful and surprising imagery, fun and engaging charactersReport

    The new season of The Good Place has started. So far, so good. Ted Danson’s effort at an Australian accent is so bad it sort of loop around back to good again.Report

      @james-k I was so relieved when I realized that they did that on purpose to give Janet an excuse to lie… or at least that he has plausible deniability that that’s why it is :D.Report

        @maribou

        Janet has developed a lot due to her repeated resets. This has probably helped her lie. Also I loved the tacky US-themed novelty restaurant. The “Manifest Destiny Package” had me in stitches.Report

          @james Oh, yes, definitely. I just really enjoy any time she gets a chance to :). The actress playing her is so expressively nuanced but also hilarious…

          Agreed about the other stuff too.

          I’ve really become geeked out on this show, I even listen to the official podcast (done by the guy who plays Sean.)Report

    Not to derail of hijack the thread, but….

    Is there a way we readers can see the image in the post itself, and not only in the Main Page. For instance, I finished reading the post and then saw:

    (Image taken from page 38 of ‘The Massilia Gazette … Reproduction of a newspaper published weekly on board the … “Massilia” … during a voyage from London to Sydney, Nov. 13th, 1890 to Jan. 1st, 1891. Edited by Edward Noyes’. Image is in the public domain.)

    Thought “how interesting”, went up to look at the image in detail, and found (as always) that there was none.

    And then got very sad. See:
