  1. Why do I have no trouble imagining Eryximachus heckling our narrator here, and then getting shouted down with drunken accusations of having been formerly androgynous before Zeus cut him in two?

    1. I assume that there was a running joke during the dinner party where each speaker began with something like “Let me begin by saying…” and then belching as loudly as they possibly could.
