This seems to be a common theme.

If a politician admits honestly that they don’t know, it’s seen as a failing.
If they explain clearly why their opponents don’t know either regardless of how cock-sure they may act, it’s ignored.
If they come up with a ridiculously bogus but confidently delivered answer, it’s seen as a strength.Report

I have friends in high places, and one of them emailed me Bernie’s behind the scenes “real” answer to the WSJ and Daily News editorial boards on the banks:

[Bernie] said he would put troops on the ground if necessary in order to stop the Banks.

“I want to have a regulatory regime that’s so strong, so powerful, so modern, has the greatest equipment in the world and that everybody says, “We’re not going to mess with them,” Bernie said in response to interviewer Scott Pelley’s question about the role of the U.S. bank regulators.

“We’re at war with the Banks as we sit here. How do you end it?,” Pelley asked.

“I would end too big to fail Banks (TBTFB) forcefully,” Bernie said, stating that he found the the financial organization’s role in the beheading of American journalist James Foley in August 2014 and other victims to be “unbelievable.” [That’s alleged, by the way]

“These people are totally a disaster,” he said.

Moving across the region, Bernie touched upon the bitter relationship between Citigroup and JPMorgan President Jamie Dimon, asking why the U.S. has not turned over the duty of fighting Dimon to Citigroup itself — as part of an apparent ruse to weaken Citigroup and thus be able to destroy them.

“Why aren’t we letting Citicorp go and fight Dimon and then we pick up the remnants?” Bernie said.

“We’re fighting Citicorp and Dimon has to be saying to himself, ‘They are the nicest or dumbest people that I’ve ever imagined,’” he added.

Bernie also offered another possible solution: GoldmanSachs.

“If you look at Citicorp. GoldmanSachs wants to get rid of JPMorgan. We want to get rid of JPMoran. Maybe let Goldman Sachs do it. Let them get rid of JPMorgan. What the hell do we care?”

After talk of possibly turning over the role of destroying JPMorgan to Gary Cohn’s Goldman Sachs organization, Bernie’s primary focus appeared to be centered on combatting JPMorgan in NYC.

“You got to knock them out,” he said twice.
