    Indeed, as the author notes, all that’s missing from it is cannibalism. (And ninjas.)

    Too bad about the baseball; but had they been marooned on the other island suggested by the final pic, there would likely have been no baseball there, either, as the sailors would have been too busy cavorting with the locals and debating whether a ship that would take them back to Connecticut would count as a “rescue.”

    But compared to Heard’s Island, the memory of Connecticut must have seemed that of a balmy paradise.Report

    D’oh! I forgot to include my favorite tidbit. It turns out that this was the second time Captain Williams had been shipwrecked, so he was an experienced hand at this. The good part is that his previous shipwreck had been on the same island.Report
