Weekend!
Having returned from Tampa and visiting dear friends and relations, and having girded one’s loins for the upcoming Holiday Celebrations, we hunker down this weekend to pre-emptively recuperate (precuperate?) from the days and weeks ahead of us.
As such, I look forward to getting the Whole Foods stuff I need to catch up on, getting the PetsMart stuff I need to catch up on, hammering out whether I need to go to Safeway or King Soopers for the various things that the other store just doesn’t carry (pretty sure it’s Safeway), and maybe stopping by the pet store that has those catnip toys that make the kitties yell loudly and then flop over on their sides with an audible “thump” before rabbit kicking the heck out of something.
Perhaps I will attempt to hit Maribou up for a date and take her out to that dinosaur movie that looks like it’d be a half-decent date movie… and then we can go out for a sandwich or something and discuss the various people who will require various gifts and delineate the various rules that will regulate said gift purchases. I mean, if I had an unlimited budget, I could finally get that Death Star…
In any case, it will be good to have a weekend where we are discussing what we have the opportunity to do rather than maybe have enough time to discuss what we’d be doing in the following weekend once all of the events of the weekend have transpired.

A family member (in her late ’70’s) passed away a few weeks ago, so I am meeting up with my cousin to transfer the remaining? family papers to me. Photos from the ’70’s (1870’s) in SF and what not.
Other than that, I might pick up a Xmas tree tomorrow and try to get some of my restoration projects wrapped up to free space.Report
I’m in Walla Walla at a friend’s place with family and friends. We’re going to be hitting up a bunch of wineries and breweries all over the area for the weekend. The house also has a mini-movie theater with a projector and the works, so I’ve been making use of that for the past couple hours (watching the Godfather on Blu-ray).Report
Oh my goodness, you are going to have so much fun this weekend! I have a dream of taking a local (Oregon and Washington) two week, road trip vacation. I plan to wine taste my way through the Northwest, and Walla Walla is on that list! I’m super jealous, have fun!Report

I’ve a question for you, @jaybird. What do you use on bloatflies? I’ve been having a hard time shooting them with either pistols or rifles, and they seem to either stay out of shotgun range or zoom in to bite and then they irradiate me, which I hate.
Also, where did my dog go? We were returning from eliminating the raiders from the factory in Lexington and they ambushed me on the way out. I couldn’t snipe the guys in the roof so I just walked away; I’d taken out the head baddie. Dog comes with me, we deal with ghouls at the railroad switching station, I trade my junk for better ammo back at the Tenpines settlement… And no dog. I switch out my follower and tell the dog where to go on dismissal, but he isn’t there either. New companion is cool and all (a little bit chatty but the dog whined so it’s six of one half a dozen of the other) but I like the dog for aesthetic reasons.

I use VATS. The only time I don’t use VATS is either when I am lining up a sniper shot (explore the sniper stuff in the Perception column! Combine it with the non-automatic long guns stuff!) or when I’m running around (yelling “whoop whoop whoop”) waiting to get my AP back.
But if I am in short range, I use shotguns (that I have modified to heck and back thanks to Gun Nut and they’re made even better with the non-automatic guns stuff).
I LOST MY DOG TOO.
I found him back in Sanctuary in his dog house (which is one of the ones hidden around back, around the side on one of the houses I don’t use much).
They seriously should have a tab devoted to where potential folks who could join you hang out when you’re hanging with your main squeeze for the 15% exp bonus she gives you (and even provides when you find a sleeping back out in the field somewhere).Report
How can people even play without VATS? It’s crazy. (Of course, my wife plays in third person view which is an Abomination Unto The Gods, but she’s weird like that).
I’ve switched to a big axe for ghouls. Right now, I don’t need perks to one or two shot them and it saves ammo.
I’m not far in, but I think I might specialize in handguns and possibly stealth. I have a suppressed pistol and it’s fun.Report
It’s easy not to use VATS on PC. I get better accuracy with a mouse than VATS. I generally only use VATS when something’s breathing down my neck and I want to be sure I shoot it in the face.Report

Well, top be totally honest I sit at a desk all day for work and with a PS4 I can sit on my couch instead of hunched over in the EXACT SAME WAY I spent the previous nine hours, but with even worse ergonomics.
I gotta get a gaming laptop or shell out big bucks for a new desk. This one’s just horrid for me.Okay for surfing the net or slow games, but FPS and RTS? Not so great. Bad posture, bad hand position….Report

I might have been able to get those raiders if I’d remembered to use VATS in the first place. But I so rarely do. I shall endeavor to remember this next time I want to harvest me some blowfly meat for wasteland snacks.

Build a weapons store. Save up and build one of the ones that makes your town money. I find myself restocking up on both shotgun shells and sniper bullets every time I visit and I’ve got in the hundreds now.

Thanksgiving was fishing awful. (family was not so well behaved.) So I’m making a full Thanksgiving dinner for 2 at my house.
Menu:
acorn squash soup
roast turkey, dry brined with a lot of salt and ground sage
sourdough dressing with chestnuts and apples and sausage
gravy
sweet/sour cranberry sauce (not from a can)
sauteed brussels sprouts with pistachios
popovers
tarte tatin w/ vanilla ice cream
By Monday I’ll be asking for recipes for leftovers.Report

I’m spoiling myself this weekend by taking my second job off and going to Skamania Lodge. If you need me, I will be hiking or in the spa. Ahhhh. When I get back, my distant cousin’s four year old son’s birthday party. Maybe I’ll just bring him a gift card from the spa. 😉
Oh, and I bought a new car while I was at work yesterday. I’m trying to get excited about it, but when you work in the auto industry, the thrill of buying a new car just isn’t there. Blah.Report

Very long week featuring several overtime-until-midnight shifts – it’s not as bad as it sounds, I start work later than most of you all do. but it still sucked.
Today I had a followup with my doc at which it was determined that we will be doubling the currently very low dose (like, the lowest prescribable dose) of my SNRI. Since I was *relentlessly* perky and ebullient for about 10 days after I started taking it the first time, I feel kinda bad for Jaybird. (Seriously, my officemate had to give me a talking to last time…) But cheerful for me. It’s a fibromyalgia drug, and the original dose gave me a lot of relief, so I’m thinking the double dose will not only be fun to adjust to, but also very useful once I’m adjusted.
My mum goes in for surgery next week, so I’ve been spending a lot of time talking to her, and I expect that will continue. (The answer to “what’s up?” is “not really my place to post it on the public internet”.)
So… all in all… I’m REALLY glad we have almost no social plans this weekend. Jaybird may convince me about the movie. But mostly I need to rest up.Report

I’m theoretically going to be spending most of my weekend on an online course for work. Except that the company doing the course has accepted our payments, but not sent us any instructions for how to log in and take the course, despite a support ticket to the company, and my colleague trying to contact the instructor on linkedin. So we’ll see.
And kiddo’s school Christmas party and a friend’s birthday party are both Saturday evening, and volunteering at the bike shop (for which I’ll have to skip out of the last hour of the course and trade notes with my colleague on Monday) and Fledermaus’s bellydance show are on Sunday.Report
Grr – yesterday at 6:30 AM (course to start at 7:00) the instructor reaches out to us, there have been technical difficulties with the webinar software, please join the course tomorrow an hour early to gain back a little of the time lost. I cancelled on my friend’s birthday party to be conscious at such hour. Now, here we are 6:30 AM Sunday, whole lot of no webinar going on.Report

My brother’s birthday was in October. I bought him the Lego Super Star Destroyer (not the really really big, one, just the really big one). When I visited for Thanksgiving, I had to convince my parents to let him leave it out so he might actually have a chance to finish it. Hours of enjoyment, I tell you!Report
