Weekend!

That’s the song I listen to every year around this time. There just aren’t that many Thanksgiving songs, now that I think about it. Alice’s Restaurant has not aged particularly well and while there’s no shortage of songs with “thank you” in the title, there just aren’t that many Thanksgiving songs. There’s Dan Bern, there’s the Johnny Cash song that he sang on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman…

There’s that dang Adam Sandler one, of course. I won’t link to it.

In any case, it’s always good to spend this weekend counting one’s blessings and doing what one can to live one’s life in a state of non-directed gratitude. Or, I suppose, in directed gratitude if one is so inclined.

So that’s what we’re doing this weekend.

In addition to that, we’re flying down to Tampa to visit my dear uncles who have FINALLY gotten married. I didn’t want to be the nephew who asked “So when are you guys getting married?” when Obergefell was decided but we found out that they had a small ceremony a couple of months ago and just didn’t tell anybody because they’ve been together since the early 70’s (if not late 60’s) and this event was much more of a legal affair than a romantic one… but, still. I want to go down there and congratulate both of them on their recent nuptials.

As such, we’re spending Thanksgiving on a plane, Black Friday with relatives, Small Business Saturday on a plane, and Sunday wondering “WHAT IN THE HECK HAPPENED TO OUR FOUR DAY WEEKEND???”
