Glyph

Glyph is worse than some and better than others. He believes that life is just one damned thing after another, that only pop music can save us now, and that mercy is the mark of a great man (but he's just all right). Nothing he writes here should be taken as an indication that he knows anything about anything.

Do you think “John Doe” ever had trouble cashing checks at the bank or reserving hotel rooms?Report

HA! Having BSed with him a few times over the years, he is just one of the nicest people I have ever met at a venue (mostly tiny places.) I am sure he talked his way through it.Report

He does seem like a cool dude.

I’m skipping straight to “See How We Are” (though I’ll miss Exene’s harmonies). Long ago, I introduced that song to an older, folk/hippieish person I know, and they loved it; such a powerful protest song/lament.Report

Yeah Doe is great. His songs are consistently powerful. He manages to channel a lot of influences without ever sounding derivative or corny.Report

I roomed with X’s tour manager for a month. Just one of his many quirks was repeatedly telling me “I always told John Doe to change his name. I’d say, ‘You know, you’re such a down-to-earth guy, you should call yourself Joe. Like, “regular Joe,” right? “Joe Doe.” So much better that way.'”

Another quirk was nude calisthenics at daybreak, but I don’t remember much about that.Report

“You want to do a guest post on KWC? Definitely include the bears (for lunch).”

Also, I am ready to do this, if you’re still up to it.Report
