    HAHH… Also known as “hopefully, a helpful hint” I have a habit of skipping people who use to many of those cute capped letters signifying who knows what.. Right now I am thinking you are Beautiful Nubile Finnish Girls which makes me look forward to pictures more than capped letters.Report

      FNG = Frickin New Guy (common Military acronym, as is HMFIC)
      B =Blog

      But feel free to skip, I use lots of common & well worn acronyms you maybe unaware of.Report

          The terms “common” & “well worn” escape you, don’t they?

          Here are some more common, well worn military acronyms I’m known to use.

          Once again, people who overreact to non-issues create a SNAFU, generating conversational threads that are FUBAR. Nothing for it I guess but to BOHICA.Report

            Yes, I recognize the terms common and well worn, but am under the impression that one person’s common is another’s rarity. For example, I am much more likely to know the source of a quote from Hamlet than Snoop Dog’s third album. I would not know Beyoncé if she got on an elevator with me but would recognize Taj Mahal. Where does that put common?
            And as to over reacting, I thought I was making a helpful hint that might increase readers and was told that if I didn’t like it to go away.Report

              @dexter

              In my posts, when I use acronyms, I always define them when first used, so I would write something like this:

              CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)

              so the reader makes the immediate association & I don’t have to type out Computational Fluid Dynamics anymore. This is my norm, as I have written such guest posts here in the past (under the current moniker, and as MRS (Mad Rocket Scientist)).

              Now HMFIC (Head Mother F**ker(s) In Charge) is used a bit playfully, and defining it would be silly. Either you know it already, or you can ask & I’ll explain it in the comments.

              BFNG was not meant for everyone, it was meant for Gabriel, which is why it was threaded to his comment.

              Finally, HAHH – yes, I see NOW that you meant that as an acronym – but it wasn’t obvious to me when I first read it. I read it as a laugh, and given the context of you declaring that you skip writers who use acronyms, I read it as derisive.

              I use acronyms in my normal writing, a LOT. I always define them upon first use because many of them are uncommon & specialized. If you really have an issue with this, you may want to skip my posts, as by the end, they can take on an element of word salad.Report
