We have been experiencing some system resource issues. We believe the problem may be resolved, but if it is not please bear with us.

Actually makes sense.
Perhaps the first thing any cop accused of brutality or other use of force questions should do is submit to a drug test.Report

Ha.
We used to have a police dept.
The chief grew up here. An obvious ‘roid user.
My work as a reporter led, first, to his firing. Second, to the town disbanding the PD. It was one of the lowest-paid in the state, relying heavily on on-call reserve officers who’d had no training, and with the lowest resolution rate in the state. We now contract services from the County Sheriff. The county admin. is a good friend of mine, he’s a Libertarian, and would like to some day run for governor. If he does, depending on the times and state of affairs (particularly to ranked-choice voting status,) I’d work on his campaign. He has to answer to the County Commissioners, but he brings his libertarian sensibilities to the management of the PD, and that’s a very good thing.
So I’m much happier. People here have a habit of telling me their foibles with government; I’m often able to help them negotiate through the weeds. And I’m not hearing anywhere near the numbers of cop abuse stories that I heard when this town had it’s own cops on the payroll. We do have a rash of break ins right now; crime has definitely gone up. But that’s because we have a rash of addicts; hooked on prescriptions for pain killers from doctors and now purchasing heroin.
It’s like we fed a whole new generation of folks into the WOD there, no?Report
Yes, it’s certainly a possibility given the incentives law enforcement professionals have to use steroids (arguably greater incentives than athletes and professional bodybuilders); however, the author’s emphasis on steroids as being a possible influence on recent incidents comes across as overly simplistic if not downright amateurish.
Regarding testing – the ability to screen cops for steroids is best answered by the following questions: 1) Who was the most tested athlete? 2) How many times did he test positive.
Answers:
1. Lance Armstrong
2. Zero
Steroid tests are like IQ tests. Only idiots fail them.Report
