A Deadly Adoption seems like it could have been the ultimate anti-joke.
The only problem is that the joke required absolute secrecy and that might be impossible.

Or maybe not? No one seems to know whether this was supposed to be an elaborate anti-joke or not.Report
Lifetime takes itself too seriously to turn one of it’s movies into a comedy a la Airplane, which basically means you play the melodrama relatively straight but add some jokes and gags and use dead pan delivery to make it funny. They are very earnest in their network philosophy, a sort of baby boomer upper middle class feminism with a touch of moral panic, and their core audience would not take kindly to having a Lifetime movie turned into a comedy. My guess is that A Deadly Adoption was always supposed to be seen as a melodrama but with big name comedy actors for some reason.Report
The couple they play are named Benson, so the joke is:
“How was the movie?”
“Not great, Bob!”Report
