Weekend!
I have had an absolutely delightful week that was absolutely exhausting. A VIP came in from out of town and I got picked to be the official minder. So I’m driving him around town, taking him to the different sites, sitting next to him at meetings, and nodding sagely at his insights. Now, don’t get me wrong, he’s a great guy and I’m thrilled that I’m the guy who got picked to be the babysitter.
But, seriously. I’m an introvert. As such, I’m in some sort of weird “running on petrol fumes” state. I’ve spent more time with the VIP than with Maribou this week.
Anyway, tomorrow night, we have the kickoff dinner in which we brag about how successful this week has been and how much we’ve accomplished at our various meetings… and then, I get to go HOME.
So this weekend will be devoted to sitting quietly on the couch, doing laundry, enjoying some wine, enjoying some alone time, enjoying some alone time with Maribou, and basically just trying to recharge my batteries before we have to visit The Fam.
So… what’s on your docket?

Tomorrow I’m meeting with one of the sitting board members and six constituents.
Tomorrow is the last day to file. The incumbent has decided not to run, after all. Two other people have pulled nomination papers but neither has completed and filed them.
So I may be running unopposed. I won’t know for sure until after tomorrow.
In the interests of a healthy democracy, I don’t think anybody should run unopposed. However, my personal stress level will be immeasurably lower if neither of the other two gets their paperwork in tomorrow.Report
Good luck, my man. May you be the (looks at list of congressmen/senators with longest tenures, decides to abandon joke).
Good luck, my man.Report
Should we just start calling you Mr. President now? 😉
Good luck.Report
If I believe weather.com, it will actually not be raining on Saturday, so I might go outside and walk around for a while. Likewise the following Thursday .Report
We’ve had a week in the high fifties and sixties. So, of course, Saturday will hit the high thirties.Report

Getting my second round of cortozone shots to the spine, so massive drug sleep.Report
As someone who regularly gets too little sleep, that almost sounds worth it.
(Also, have you noticed that the older we get, the less fun our drugs get? It’s COMPLETELY unfair, I say.)
There were a surprising number of “spine”-related rock songs in the 1990s.
…ok, maybe just two that I could think of.
Take care my man.Report

Ouch. I did that (two, also) when I was in my early 30’s in my neck. A long, long time on bed rest. I wish you speedy recovery.Report
Something with my sweetie. The club where he has standing Fri/Sat gigs had pipes freeze, burst, and so was flooded. He’s got a month off. Also, a month without that extra income. The time is welcomed, but the lack of fun money to spend while we have it, not so much.
Our big hope is that the piano (which sucked) got ruined and they’ll have to replace that, too.Report
I am going to my Dance Studio’s 30th Holiday Gala on Saturday. On Sunday, I am doing holiday shopping.Report

Our regular Monday night potluck (last one we’ll make it to this year).
Then on Wednesday night we go home for the holidays. I’m sooo ready for family time, rich food in good company, and all that good stuff.Report
Tonight office Christmas party, or as my younger co-workers call it, holiday party. Just an observation, no judgement.
Saturday, going to see the neighbor boy’s band. Good ol’ Chicago power pop. Should probably try to shoehorn a Christmas tree in, too.
Sunday, going to a former co-worker’s wedding, which promises to be a real hoot.Report
We have a desk arriving tomorrow morning, from cousins. I need to get the basement cleared in preparation for it.
I also have some more general cleaning to do. The folks are coming up late in the month, and some cleaning takes weeks instead of days.Report
So it’s a fairly normal working weekend as usual but right now I’m watching a bunch of truck drivers watching Modern Family on a TV where nobody has the remote so they’re kinda stuck. Priceless.Report
