Faded and Worn

by Jesse Reader

On my walk today I found 3 stones.
I picked them up caressing their edges.
Tumbled by rocks, scoured by water, worn smooth,
Colors of peach and almond and cherry blossom, faded like a sunset,
My stones have character and life left in them.

On my walk today I found 3 golf balls,
Perfectly round, their perky dimples evenly distributed.
A golfers dream, drive it and pray it goes straight.
I didn’t turn them over in my hand admiringly.
Not very interesting, really.

There were no edges.
Not like my stones.
Tumbled and creased, faded and worn
Like us weathered by the years,
More tender to touch and easier to hold.

Please do be so kind as to share this post.
