I first read the story in a collecton of his called “Smoke and Mirrors”. I believe he wrote it for a writing competition where stories where limited to 200 words. I’ve turned several folks into Gaiman fans by asking them to begin by reading that story.
Yep, that’s where I first encountered it as well.
If Gaiman’s never had it made into official Christmas cards, he should.
Wait, no. I think it was in Angels and Visitations first? I’ll have to check when I get a chance.
But anyway, yeah, it makes an impression. It was one of my favorites for sure.
Not to mention the Easter Bunny. Other rabbits get to do what they’re famous for, but he’s condemned to eternity being oviparous.
