In the time-honored internet tradition of not addressing the main points of your OP and instead focusing on one small thing you said, I’ll say that for me, the “Little Drummer Boy” is probably the one of the most moving stories I’ve seen. I only saw that cartoon once–when I was very young–but it’s always stuck with me, especially that scene (SPOILER ALERT) where the boy’s pet lamb comes back to life (if I’m remembering the same story you are).Report

    I hadn’t realized there were so many covers of Grinch, nor so few of Welcome. In the spate of googling, I found probably the most heart-wrenching cover of the latter – an upbeat swing version by the Army Field Band, with returning service members in the video, which made me a lot more cognizant of ALL the meanings of “Just so long as we have we”.

    Their upbeatness did not alleviate the heart-wrenching.

    In Seattle an FM station ran a listeners choice poll (aka “Bad Choice Friday”) this afternoon.
    “You’re a Mean One…” vs. “Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas”. The Grinch won.Report
