Jaybird

Jaybird is Birdmojo on Xbox Live and Jaybirdmojo on Playstation's network. He's been playing consoles since the Atari 2600 and it was Zork that taught him how to touch-type. If you've got a song for Wednesday, a commercial for Saturday, a recommendation for Tuesday, an essay for Monday, or, heck, just a handful a questions, fire off an email to AskJaybird-at-gmail.com

I need to get out of bed. That is about as far ahead as I am bothering to think.Report

My wife’s birthday party begins in a few hours, to feature excessively garnished caesars (almost but not exactly bloody Marys, for those of you south of the 49th). We have pickles, breakfast sausages, pickled asparagus, olives, celery, jalapeno havarti, big kebab skewers, and lots of clamato juice and vodka.Report

Yesterday I installed Windows five times on two different machines and neither of them had a working install of Windows at the end of the day. Main problem at the moment on the computer that matters is that Windows Update is locking up and if I bite the bullet and turn the computer off, it doesn’t reboot. So I’ll be working on that. On the computer that doesn’t matter I installed Linux. Can’t get it to recognize the server. So I’ll be working on that as well.Report

A few weeks ago, I had a browser plug-in that was trying to update without notifying me. All I knew was that my computer locked up, so I rebooted. BSOD from there on out.
I had a backup on hard disk that I copied over with robocopy. I copied the Windows directory back over to the computer, and it would boot then. Some of the programs wouldn’t work after that.
The thing is, I now have incompatible security patches. I didn’t even know that security patches could be incompatible. Apparently, they can.
I think I’m going to have to remove several updates, then re-update it.Report

The new Nexus 7 arrived today. I have to remember passwords that my Mac has been remembering for years. I have to learn to type with two fingers (something I haven’t done since I was in fifth grade). I suspect there will be a Bluetooth keyboard in my future. I anticipate significant frustration while Google and I reach a compromise on how things are supposed to work. I do not look forward to having spelling correction do bizarre things to my text. On the other hand, maybe I’ll just use voice input; if my comments have no capital letters, just assume that’s what’s going on.Report
