In a zombie apocalypse, I can think of no better person to have with you. He’d probably whittle some sort of combo rolling tower/zombie catapult to take the survivors to safety.

But mornings would be meaningless; because I don’t want to live in a world where Perd Hapley* has been eaten.

Have you read the book? Because the movie looks… different (I’m trying to be generous).Report

    • Kazzy in reply to Ryan Noonan says:

I haven’t… it’s been sitting on my shelf for years, as I’ve been too scared to read it. Zazzy bought it for me hoping it’d qualm my irrational fear of zombies*, but all it did was make me more scared. The fear has since abated and the trailer looked dope enough to make me want to pick it up. Sad to hear they might be vastly different. It wouldn’t shock me if they simply took the basic theme and made a Brad Pitt action movie.

      * Not really a fear of zombies per say; more a fear of developing schizophrenia , with zombies as my hallucination. But, still, they freak me the fuck out.Report

I was going to comment with this question as well. You really owe it to yourself to read the Zombie Survival Guide as well.Report

She bought me that one as well, which I started to pick through, only realizing zombies were far scarier than I had initially thought. I’ll probably pick both back up in anticipation of the film, even if it goes in a different direction. The visuals of the movie do look pretty remarkable.Report

        • Fish in reply to Kazzy says:

I absolutely LOVE the entire zombie genre, although it gives me the most insane nightmares (which, strangely, I enjoy) and I find myself looking at the buildings I’m in and judging them on their defensive capabilities and potential for long-term habitation in the event of a zombie apocalypse. My brain is weird like that.Report

They’re whatever temperature the environment happens to be, right? Wouldn’t that make it preferable to live in a place that has seasons? Two or three nights below freezing should work wonders against the horde.Report

    • MaxL in reply to Jaybird says:

This is true, but might only be the case with virus zombies and not undead zombies? Virus zombies probably have a normal body temperature but are too dumb to know about clothes. Do fast virus zombies rot or do they starve? Do they need air to breathe or can they go underwater? Will sharks eat them as carrion?

Clearly, I’d rather have a zombie apocalypse shelter on a warm island than in the frozen tundra, but its just so damn hard to plan for these things without good intel.Report

Great trailer! Fast zombies are way scarier than shuffling zombies.

Too bad the director of World War Z is this guy, though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Forster#Filmography

Quantum of Solace? This should get him banned from the trade. Arguably the worst Bond film of all time, especially given the fact he had Daniel Craig to work with as Bond. It’s one thing to screw the pooch on a film with Pierce Brosnan in the cast, but Daniel Craig?

One last thought, and I can’t say it’s mine but I forget where I read it now: Zombies are definitely the scariest undead. Honestly, who doesn’t want to be a vampire? They are immortal superheroes with a weird but morally manageable diet issue and a little bit of a glow in direct sunlight these days, right?

But nobody wants to be a zombie. While vampires are even more alive than the living, zombies are just plain not dead enough. Especially the fast ones.Report

    • Don Zeko in reply to MaxL says:

I disagree. At the very least these fast zombies, with their obvious CGI, make it clear that no corporeal humans got anywhere near them. Slow zombies, on the other hand, mirror the inevitability of death itself. Initially it seems like they can be outrun, outmaneuvered, and outfought, but there are always more of them, and they’re always behind you.Report

The eternal question of which is worse…watching in dumbstruck shock just before being chased to exhaustion by mindless, scrambling, starving violence or the sense of constant doom that is being stalked by inevitable, slow, gruesome death? Fishing zombies.Report
