  4. It is good to hear that you, your family and your boat are okay, but it is quite sad that you have lost a member of your community.Report

It is a startling, sad thing to learn; and in a small town like Montauk it hurts, even though our family didn’t know her.Report

Does anyone know how Montauk Shores Mobile Home Condo fared? We cannot get hold of anyone as of yet.Report

    • David Ryan in reply to Denise says:

One of my daughter’s school mates lives down there and I’ve seen her father twice since the storm. No mention of anything from him, but then he’s a good natured man of few words. Driving by I saw no signs of extreme damage, but next time I’m out I’ll take a closer look and get back to you.Report

So glad to hear that things are returning to normal. We vacation at the Royal Atlantic every October and were very worried about the town. The recovery in Connecticut is also making great progress.Report

    Good to hear that!
I just want to ask you a simple question.
I and my friends want to visit Montauk seashore, may be next weekend.
How is the sea shore right now? is it all messed up by hurricane Sandy?Report

    • David Ryan in reply to Jay Lee says:

There are a few places with some pretty bad erosion, but mostly the beaches are in pretty good shape. Some places even have *more* sand than usual for this time of year.

There is more debris on the beaches, good or bad, depending on your point of view. Some places the seaweed is piled high, but then other places there’s lot of interesting driftwood and other beach combing finds.Report

Hello..does anyone know how our beloved Shagwong Point Beach weathered Hurricane Sandy?
The erosion this year was pretty bad & we hope there will be some beachfront left to enjoy next
summer….any news & photos would be greatly appreciated. W e love Montauk & hope all there
    are well….Report

    • David Ryan in reply to Susan says:

It looks like there’s plenty of sand on the beach from the East Jetty all the way to Shagwong point. Overall and compared to our neighbors to the West, Montauk got off pretty easy. We’ll see you next Summer!Report
