“And we will again as long as we do it together. We champion the cause for which our founders pledged their lives, their fortunes, their sacred honor— to form a more perfect union.

If that’s what you believe, if that’s what you want, we have to re-elect President Barack Obama.”

Except that “our sacred honor” was the Declaration of Independence. “A more perfect union” is the Constitution replacing the Articles of Confederation government, over a decade later. But screw it, he was on a roll.

I speak well of Bill Clinton, and the parts I caught while walking by were quite [mostly] statesmanlike. But I was closing up for the night with the transcript of his speech on the screen, noticed that and wondered if anybody else did.Report

Clinton didn’t read no prepared remarks.
Clinton’s speech was 45 minutes of teleprompter-frying glory (literal). He was supposed to take twenty.
Obama had to intervene with a hug to get Clinton to stop talking…Report

Yeah, but he sure can mix metaphors like a former southern governor makes coconut pie in a steel mill with both hands tied behind his back in the middle of a snowstorm trek uphill five miles both ways.Report

Clinton, stage hog that he is, took off on a riff last night and really stuck it to Romney-Ryan. Gotta love the Big Dog. Also have to wonder if he’s going to end up upstaging Obama.Report

What I don’t get is why the Romney campaign would make Clinton’s welfare reform a key part of their message. Did they not see this coming? Maybe they’re banking on no one watching. That’s probably a relatively safe bet.
