I for one am sincerely shocked.  Not that someone thinks that way, but that they were prepared to say it out loud on television.Report

To be honest, I don’t get it.  When someone you really dislike, who’s been nothing but a thorn in your side and a roadblock in the path of accomplishing anything, leaves for another job, what do you say publicly?  “We appreciate his contributions and we wish him well.”  When I was much younger, I made the mistake of quoting Mark Twain instead.  “Did you go to Jim’s going-away lunch?”  “No, but I write a nice letter saying I approved of it.”  Not done.Report

For a few years there, it seemed all I did was deal with failed projects.   More than once I came in to find the previous batch of consultants and middle management packing their boxes.   All I’d hear from the survivors would be horrible tales, though truth to tell, they’d usually sacked the wrong people and left the problem-causers in place to wreak even more havoc.   I once came into a bank, literally not two minutes on the premises, only to be hauled into a conference room by some Ancient Mariner looking type who told me “They hate us here!   Be on your guard!”   Literally.

I never tolerate ass biting or tale telling of that sort.   People are hired for their abilities and sacked for their personalities.   I’ve had occasion to threaten to terminate an engagement simply because I was being told to repeat the failed strategy of those who had come before me.    If you can’t say something good about someone, STFU.   It never makes you look good anyway.

The Folx at Fox have been tossing grenades around for long enough to warrant anyone’s bad opinion of them.   They manufacture outrage because it sells.   Ann Coulter once said “where there is a vacuum of ideas, paranoia slips in.”   When all you are is represented by ideas about what you aren’t, that’s a vacuum of ideas which has characterised fascism and jingoism and religious bigotry since mankind began to sort the species out into Us and Them.

Creepy, indeed.   Hatred is easy.   Tolerance is hard.Report
