    Why is it a compelling state interest to keep intraparty chicanery to a minimum?  As you say elsewhere, if you don’t like it, start your own party.  I would also point out that at the Presidential level, party candidates being selected by the primary/caucus system (vice just a primary system) is a late 20th century phenomenon – indeed entirely within your lifetime, if you are old enough to be an Anderson voter.  Last, the public financing of primaries is not universal or comprehensive and in any case, cuts off (as it must) at the certain level – and that level often creates a catch-22 for those seeking to break out of the duopoly. (e.g. to have a public financed primary, you need a candidate that polled a minimum amount – in the previous election)Report
