“Yes, they’re both conservative Democrats, but the similarities end there.”

    That’s a very good point.

It’s frustrating to read all sorts of thumbsucking about “epistemic closure” when it should be obvious for anybody paying attention that that particular shoe belongs on the other foot. Politically speaking, if all you can engage with is Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi, then

Steny Hoyer = Joe Lieberman = Ben Nelson = Heath Shuler = Harold Ford = Republican = Teabagger

The election of Pelosi as Minority Leader means that the Demo wounds from the last election are still very raw and libs and Demo’s won’t be able to talk about them rationally for a while yet.Report

Alternatively, a large majority of the caucus recognizes that Pelosi got PPACA passed, which has been a Democratic goal for 50 years. Time in the minority is a price to be paid for complex legislation that was relentlessly demagogued (death panels, really?).Report

But things aren’t as bad as they were in 2002.

First off let me say that I have no idea what the future holds.

Now let’s have some fun and PROGNOSTICATE!!!!

If the Tea Partiers/Baggers continue on in their hatred of America and baby killing and racism and whatnot and hold the Establishment Republicans’ feet to the fire (don’t touch my junk/Medicare), we will, once again, see a lot of churn in the Congressional races.

Seats that were presumed “safe” for Republicans will have racist, hateful, baby-killing challengers.

Additionally, the 2010 class of Senators was the *SAME* class that went up when the other JFK went up against Hurricane W. Hitlerburton… and Republicans picked up seats.

2012’s class will be the class of 2006… and there was a *HUGE* pickup for Democrats. As in a lot of talk was about how the Republicans might lose the House but, of course, they’d keep the Senate and keep it strong.

*IF* the vile, racist, anti-feminist, homophobic, pot-smoking tea partiers/baggers are holding Republican feet to the fire in the House, we will see a lot of Republican pickups in the Senate as well.

    But I’m just guessing.Report
