That’s just going to make them angrier…
Peter Jaworski holds an annual “Liberty Summer” event for fellow libertarians on his parents’ land in Orono, Ontario. This year, irony-loving Canadian government officials shut down the event by threatening to fine him up to $50,000 for using the property for “reasons unapproved by government“. No doubt, that’ll learn ’em.
Seriously? This is the sort of thing that really gets my goat.Report
@Will, Yeah, really. The Nat Post editorial explains the government reasoning better than I could:

Not that this makes it sound more reasonable- just more labyrinthine.Report
@Will, oh don’t worry goats are legal.Report
The Jaworskis aren’t sure why inspectors, after years of summer seminars, suddenly showed up . . . They recently turned their home into a bed and breakfast. . . .
The Jaworskis are idiots.Report
“Canada, Oh Canada!”Report
Hi Rufus –
Thank you for writing about my parents. I appreciate it.
Pat: I don’t understand why you would call us idiots. The two things you quote don’t relate to one another. We are permitted to have a bed and breakfast according to by-laws and zoning.
So what makes you say that we’re idiots?Report
@Peter Jaworski, Having dozens of people pay you money to stay at your private house caused no problems for ten years. Then this year, having 72 people pay to stay at your licensed bed and breakfast, which is regulated as a small hotel–in Quebec that’s limited to five rooms, I imagine Ontario is similar–this brings attention from the provincial government. And you’re “not sure why” this happened. I will allow that maybe you’re pretending to be idiots.Report
