    I’m glad the Keegan book is working for you. I also recommend his life of Winston Churchill, which is actually rather short but it’s pretty comprehensive. Plus, Keegan throws in some great personal anecdotes about himself as bookends that are the highlights of the book, in my opinion.Report

  2. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve just finished Shelby Foote’s Civil War history, which is also an outright page-turner in many sections, and reasonmably easy to follow. When I’m ready for more horrifying carnage, I’ll give the Keegan a try.Report

    Keegan’s good; he undercounts, however, the non-Western Front stuff. I’d strongly recommend “Victory 1918” by Alan Palmer.Report
