Could we show any more contempt for Leviticus 11:9-12 if we tried?

Is it because you think that the verses somehow predate the Beckian 9/12 movement?

It’s rare to see such blatant disregard for both religious conservatives and fiscal conservatives in one post. Is it the populism that turns you off? Or just the fact that these “normal” folks think differently than you think they’d think if you were in charge of their school curriculae?Report

That said, I’d like the superpower of having the Bible memorized. When someone says something, I’d like to be able to, right then and there, say something like “Hosea talks about this and The Lord disagrees with you”.

Well, I suppose I could do that now, but it’d be cool to have it be somewhat accurate every time.Report

I dunno, I’m actually with Leviticus on that one. Crustaceans and mollusks are like sea bugs. I don’t like them.Report

I mean, to eat. As long as they’re just minding their own business I don’t mind.Report

God used the word “abomination” three times when talking about the sea bugs.

Compare to 20:13 and you’ll say “wow, 20:13 only uses it once!” and then you’ll get to have a discussion over why Red Lobster doesn’t have people holding signs in front of it (yes, I know about that dumb website) and ???????? and to’ebah and have people point out that even the devil can quote scripture and then you can say “hey, what’s the difference between the devil and an evangelical? the devil can quote scripture” and watch the conversation fall apart from there.Report

I’d object to this as unfair if I hadn’t seen the Congressman who wanted the Ten Commandments posted in courtrooms be unable to list them on the Colbert Report.Report

It honestly ought only be used defensively… that is to say, after one has been compared to Satan.

I wouldn’t (and don’t) suggest using it a moment before one’s opponent points out that even Satan can quote scripture.Report

  2. To be fair from my angle, the whole reason I emailed about that is because I “saw” the post via Twitter and went to check it out thinking, “Er, I says pardon?” And when I saw it thought, “Uh, okay…” I wouldn’t get all up in arms like some of the ObiWi commenters, but it still struck me as kinda… off. Then again, I’m not exactly a regular reader so maybe I’m the one who is off.

    Anyhow…Report

Wut? There’s like 3 uninformed dissidents in the ObWi thread who don’t know how open threads work. You’re nutpicking. Dreadfully easy to do.Report

Like the blog there. I avoid the comments section like the plague. If we get a comments section like that, I’m going to avoid reading comments altogether.

    Sidereal,

We already have a commenter who revels in intentionally butchering basic English and I can’t stand her. We don’t need another one.

    Thanks for stopping by.Report

  6. sidereal says:

Dave, ‘stopping by’? Not only am I a reasonably frequent commenter, I’ve written a guest article for your site. And if you get your knickers in a twist over the occasional intentional slangy misspelling, then yes, avoiding comments, evidently this site’s headlines (see: ‘haz’), and possibly the entirety of the casual written word might be your best bet.

But if you’re referring to makoto, yes I sympathize.

I maintain that Scott was basically nutpicking to rag on a quite estimable blog, and I have no idea why you consider the comment thread there plague-ridden. The LOG benefits from a commentariat that is small, but should you ever grow to ObWi’s traffic, which I assume you aspire to, you’ll be quite fortunate to have a similarly civilized comment section.Report

I mean sure I live in California which is basically the same thing, but I’m already missing my summer peaches. Every spring it’s just awkward to eat foods with pumpkin and root vegetables.Report
