Btw, Juan Cole writes this about the Blackwater hit squad story:

And if any of us had said that Dick Cheney was setting up civilian mercenary assassination squads (at least 007 works for the British government), and set things up so that perhaps neither the CIA director nor the president even knew about it, we would have been branded moonbats. But well, that is today’s story [link to a guardian story summarizing the basics].

Anyone have any idea where he’s getting the Bush& CIA totally out of the loop idea? The NYT story has CIA ops training at Blackwater, just total intermeshing. How could a CIA hit program using Blackwater not have CIA in the loop? (And why am I writing this here?) Just certain Cheney-friendly spooks (Cofer Black, Kyle Foggo)? Don’t get it what Cole’s saying here.Report

Can we now refer to these Bush administration folks as domestic terrorists in their own right, or at least scum?

Btw, Greenwald dug up this USA Today article from a few years back where Ridge made similar claims. So this can’t be explained away by a simple desire to sell his book.Report
