the big picture
The Big Picture has some amazing, startling photos up on the protests. Momentum is building. This is certainly not just any protest. This is game-changing. I remain optimistic.
Also, once again, the New York times Lede Blog has excellent coverage and updates.
Here’s a profile of the Supreme Leader from Karim Sadjapour. Where he stands in all of this is beyond me, but he has called for an inquiry.
I wonder what coverage in Israel is like? I somehow doubt their media is quite so soporific as ours.
Update.
I agree with John on this one:
Getting things straight in Iran is a task for Iran, and perhaps – perhaps – also for the UN or the EU. Given the sad history of American meddling in the region, this is the perfect time for our president to sit quietly on the sidelines.
However, we still need to know as much as possible. If there is anything the leaders of this nation can do it’s press for more hard-nosed journalism. We need to understand Iranians. Even if they remain our ostensible “enemies” it can’t hurt to have a deeper knowledge and empathy of their civilization and motivations as a people.
