Left-wing terrorism has been fairly well represented when you count the Uni-bomber, the Black Panthers, the NY followers of Abdel Rahman, the guy with a bomb in his shoe — they all were planning to kill lots of people, even if some of their plans were thwarted. Then some of the planners of 9/11 were Americans, I believe. And the recent Dr. killer was neither left or right, with his plans to Kristol, but really just an insane person.Report

The problem with the circular figure is that it ends up putting “libertarianism” next to “fascism/monarchy”, which really doesn’t make much sense.

I don’t know if there’s much point to differentiating between “theocracy” and “fascism” in terms of political spectrum diagrams. Fascism is in some sense a theocracy where the Leader takes the place of God (for example, the Emperor in Imperial Japan and personality-cult leaders in the other Axis powers).

    I generally prefer the two-axis diagram with a left-right horizontal line and a more/less government vertical line.Report

  3. Leftwing terrorism of Bill Ayers never caused any deaths? Perhaps because he was incompetent, not because he didn’t want to.
Didn’t three of his pals blow themselves up in a Manhattan townhouse while building a nail-bomb intended for a dance at Fort Dix army base? I would say that those deaths count.
Weathermen Gilbert and Kathy Boudin caused the deeath of two police officers and a security guard.
There are others, but that should do for starters.Report
