a quote for the morning
“Republicans have become embarrassing to watch. And it doesn’t feel right to make fun of crazy people. Better, perhaps, to focus on the real policy debates, which are all among Democrats. But here’s the thing: the G.O.P. looked as crazy 10 or 15 years ago as it does now. That didn’t stop Republicans from taking control of both Congress and the White House. And they could return to power if the Democrats stumble. So it behooves us to look closely at the state of what is, after all, one of our nation’s two great political parties.” ~ Paul Krugman
Krugman certainly has a point. In a sense it doesn’t matter how crazy the Republicans get, so long as the Democrats can prove once again their incompetence. Now, I think the Dems have a far, far more competent leader in Obama – and a more honest one, to boot. Clinton was arrogant: a skilled politician but a dishonest leader. The new administration may be peopled with Clintonites, but it’s Obama at the helm, which will make a difference in many, many ways, both in administration policies, but also in Congressional direction. With the Dems a 60 seat majority in the Senate, anything could happen. Huge successes or huge failures. Good to keep an eye on whether the GOP decides to turn toward smart conservative policies or crazy conservative policies. I know where my money’s at.
